Inspiration Behind the Painting:

Henri Matisse was a French painter and the leading artist of a movement called Fauvism.
Fauvism was all about using bold, bright colours, and Matisse really loved playing with colour.

During his visit to Tangier, he became fascinated by goldfish. And that fascination inspired him to create an entire series of paintings around them.

In this particular painting, you can see the goldfish in his own garden and fish tank, surrounded by these beautiful, vibrant colours.
And when I was designing this saree, I wanted to bring out those colours without taking away from the painting.
So, I chose this beautiful olive green for the body of the saree.
And look at the result!
